Since it was founded in 1982, SKB Architecture and Design (SKB) has provided exceptional design, service, and technical skill for clients around the world. SKB enjoys a reputation for creating highly thoughtful design solutions to complex problems, be they aesthetic, functional, or logistical.

For the past 34 years, SKB has based its service around the simple notion that the client is not fully benefiting from the firm if those with the most experience are not working on the project. SKB is led by three partners who have specific strengths and who share the administration of the firm so that they can each spend the majority of their time doing project work:

  • Mark Baughman, AIA, IIDA, LEED AP sets the firm’s design direction and leads many of the design teams personally, collaborating with talented design professionals.
  • Ruth Oczkowski oversees the firm’s project management and directs many of the most complex projects in the office.
  • Mark Guild, AIA is the technical director of the firm and oversees the production of technical documents in addition to personally working on the most challenging projects.

Every project team is managed on a day-to-day basis by a principal of the firm who has more than 25 years of experience. Most projects include at least one partner and one principal working actively on the team. No firm of SKB’s stature applies its most valuable resources – the talented and experienced senior management – to project work the way SKB does.

SKB offers the full breadth of professional design services, from programming, workplace strategies, and change management; through architecture and interior architecture; to construction supervision, furniture procurement, and move coordination.

SKB operates a main office headquartered in Washington, DC with additional offices in Palo Alto, California; and overseas offices in Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The designers in each office work in an integrated way with all the other offices, leveraging cloud and web-based collaboration tools. SKB is licensed to practice architecture in more than 20 states in the U.S. and has built projects in more than 100 countries around the world.
