Corporate Design | Washington, DC | 120,000 sf | 2011

Mathematica, an established think-tank in Washington, DC, selected SKB Architecture and Design to provide architectural design services for their expansion space in 2008. The project parameters were originally to add space and match finishes, SKB later provided design solutions for a renovation of 15,000 SF and developed new brand concepts throughout. SKB was again chosen to develop Mathematica’s new offices totaling 120,000 SF in 2010. The new space provides extensive privates offices for quiet thought as well as a collaboration thoroughfare that extends the length of the building defining open teaming areas, huddle rooms, conference centers and reading lounges. Emblematic of a think-tank, the team developed a vertical glass design element based on Mathematica’s name in binary code using circular graphics. This mathematical totem is an integral part of the new monumental stair which connects the floors through transparency and fritted color changes that define the four separate levels of the space.
