Law Firm | Washington, DC | 45,000 sf | 2010

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is a Seattle-based law firm that had recently expanded its Washington, DC office to offer its clients a stronger portfolio of services. The new design was a merger of the identities of the two firms with a careful nod to the Seattle roots of the firm. The building has an eccentric city block wide footprint due to its frontage on Pennsylvania Avenue and Eye Street northwest, and navigating through the large, complex building plate can be disorienting. The design expresses the two grid systems in the ceiling through the linear lights and creates major spatial events at the center and each end of the floor. These two grids are identified by green or blue-green glass wall panels which function as space dividers and serve as design features that help users develop a cognitive map of the space as well as reinforce the idea that two entities together make a bigger, richer one.
